Hockey: Varsity Girls

girls hockeySince Deerfield returned to co-education and formed a girls’ hockey team in 1989, it has been considered one of the premier prep school programs in New England. It took Deerfield just five years to earn a spot in the league playoffs, and the Big Green captured the New England Division I Championship in 2001. With many of our graduates going on to play at the collegiate level, both in Division I and III, we pride ourselves on developing players from the time they enter the Academy. Our most recent alumnae have enjoyed successful careers in the college ranks at Harvard, Yale, Boston College, Union, Colby, Williams, Middlebury, and Bowdoin, among others. We accomplish this by combining intense practice sessions four days per week with a game schedule that consists of the top teams in New England. We also host our own Holiday tournament in December, and this round-robin tournament is a great opportunity for our girls to gain exposure to college coaches around the country.

Our team philosophy is based on commitment, respect, and hard work. The coaches stress fundamental skills in practice, emphasizing discipline in individual and team play. A unified sense of purpose and dedication are essential to the success of our program.

Deerfield girls hockey is coached by coach Genevieve Pitt. Her email is gpitt@deerfield.edu.
