In their first league home game in almost a month, the Big Green came out flying this afternoon against Cushing. On the first shift of the game, the newly formed line of Kayla O’Connor ’14, Katherine Jackson ’15 and Lucy Lytle ’15 peppered the goal with shots, narrowly missing several solid chances. Devinne Cullinane ’14, Taylor Morash ’16 and Meghan Halloran ’17 kept the momentum going, thereby setting the tone for the afternoon. Deerfield dominated from start to finish, out-shooting Cushing 37-15 on the day, and spending the majority of the game in the offensive end. All six defensemen did a great job of stepping up into the play, especially Madi Lyford ’15, who had a few great rushes up the ice. Shai Lineberry ’17 and Jenna Greenbaum ’17 both had great chances right in front of the net in the second period, but it took until the third frame for the Big Green to finally get on the scoreboard, when Morash, who had an excellent all-around game, converted passes from Cullinane and Halloran. Jackson (assisted by O’Connor) added an empty net goal to seal the deal. This was a great overall effort from this resilient team, and we look forward to taking on Westminster on Friday night in Simsbury, CT.
