Basketball: Varsity Girls lost to Choate

Deerfield honored seven seniors on Friday night in their final game of the regular season. Kayla Ali, Caroline Ashford, Lili Brown, Kate Ginna, Becca Harrington, Jess Hom and Libby Murray have all been crucial members of the Big Green squad this season, and received well-deserved praise prior to tip-off. Four-year seniors, Ali, Ashford, Brown, Ginna and Murray got the start on the night, and jumped out to an early lead versus Choate. The entire game saw a lot of back and forth action, with neither team holding a lead of more than eight points at any point. Deerfield went into the half down by three points, but started the second half on a quick 8-0 run to go up 29-24. In a tightly-called match, both teams subbed consistently to avoid any serious foul trouble. Unfortunately for the Big Green, they could not avoid the foul trouble, with Harrington fouling out of the game near the end of the second half. Choate turned up the intensity in the final minutes, capitalizing off of Deerfield turnovers and hitting their free throws to come away with a 48-42 victory.

Senior Jess Hom paced Deerfield with 10 points, with Murray and Ashford chipping in eight a piece, Harrington adding seven, and Ginna, four.

Deerfield will travel to Hotchkiss this Wednesday, February 26th for a first-round matchup in the New England 8 Tournament.
