Deerfield defeated Westminster in convincing fashion on Thursday, by a final score of 56-34. The Big Green took an early lead on their home court and never looked back. Deerfield’s starting line-up combined for 44 of the team’s 56 points and set a strong pace for the game. A mixture of full- and half-court man-to-man pressure kept Westminster on their heels, but the visitors remained within reach for the first half. Deerfield’s starters extended the lead early in the second, and did not see a letdown from any combination on the floor for the remainder of the game. Senior captain Becca Harrington paced the offense with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor, while adding in two assists and three steals. Fellow senior captain Caroline Ashford posted another double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Caroline Coppinger played an all-around solid game with seven points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Jess Hom ’14 and Libby Murray ’14 combined for 12 points.
Deerfield will play the final game of their regular season tomorrow evening, Friday, February 21st at home.
