The Big Green lost a hard fought battle to Exeter by a final score of 63-42. Exeter took control of the game right from the tip, and used an exceptional shooting performance to hold their lead for the entirety of the contest. Deerfield failed to close out on the ball during the opening minutes of the game, leaving space for a talented Exeter squad to take advantage of the room behind the arc. An early lead quickly jumped to double digits at the half as Exeter continued to drain three-point shots. In the second half, Deerfield was able to nearly cut the lead to single digits, getting as close at 11. Nonetheless, a few defensive breakdowns kept the game out of reach for the home squad. Senior captain Libby Murray did her best to pace Deerfield, putting up a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards. Fellow senior captain Caroline Ashford also put together a strong performance with 13 points and 6 rebounds.
Deerfield will hope to get back on track and put together a full 32 minutes of solid play this Wednesday, January 15th as they host Williston-Northampton at 4:00pm.
