It was the tale of two halves for Deerfield Academy on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 48-40 defeat to Philips Andover on the road. Following four quick points from the home squad, Deerfield responded with an exceptional first-half performance. The Big Green executed offensively, driving the lane and finding the open player. Quick ball movement in and out of the paint led to easy shots for the squad, who quickly built up their lead on the road. On the other side of the ball, the visitors hustled for loose balls on the floor, picked off passes, pulled down rebounds, and continued to get stops. Senior captain Libby Murray led the strong defensive charge, entering the break with seven steals.
The second half proved to be an entirely different story, and Deerfield saw their 11-point lead unravel quickly. During the second half, it was Andover who executed offensively and got key defensive stops. Deerfield turned the ball over on the offensive end and did not defend on the other end of the court. The home squad outscored Deerfield 30-11 in the second half, and Deerfield finished the game with 19 turnovers.
Deerfield will play their fourth game in six days, traveling to Worcester on Monday, January 20th for a 5:00pm tip-off.
