Deerfield hit the road this afternoon to make the long trek to Concord, NH to take on St. Paul’s. Having missed this match-up last year due to a snowstorm, the team was excited to take on the New England semi-finalists. Unfortunately, the Big Green forgot to show up in the first period, deferring to their speedy opponent and refusing to battle for pucks or challenge passes. Unsurprisingly, SPS took advantage of the time and space we afforded them, earning a two goal lead after the first fifteen minutes of play. It was a different story in the final two periods, however, as we did a better job of maintaining our defensive shape and creating opportunities of our own. Deerfield was able to pull within one goal early in the third period, as Meghan Halloran ’17 scored the first goal of her DA career off of an assist from Katherine Jackson ’15. The Big Green had several near misses as the period wound down, including a breakaway from Devinne Cullinane ’14 (who had a great all-around game), but could not find the equalizer. Emily Yue ’16 had another fantastic game in goal with 25 saves. We now head into our Holiday Tournament, where we will play two games on Friday and two more on Saturday. Many thanks to the Wenners family for the pizza, fruit, drinks and unbelievable cake pops after the game!
