Deerfield took the ice this evening to take on the defending New England champions from Nobles. The visitors are a fast, smart, and talented team, and the Big Green had their hands full all game long, but battled in all three zones from start to finish. Nobles scored the only goal of the first period, a shot from the point that hit several sticks in front of the net before eluding goalie Emily Yue ’16. They got their second goal with less than two minutes left in the second period off of another screened shot, and then stretched the lead to three goals halfway through the third on the power play. Despite several power play opportunities of their own, including a two-man advantage, Deerfield was unable to find the back of the net. Nobles rounded out the scoring with less than one minute left in the game off of an untimely turnover in our defensive zone. Yue had an outstanding game in goal, keeping her team in the game with 40 saves, while her teammates did an excellent job in front of her by keeping Nobles to the outside. Despite the loss, the Big Green should be proud of their effort tonight; they played a smarter game and competed harder than they did against Loomis on Wednesday. The young line of Shai Lineberry ’17, Elliot Gilbert ’16 and Jenna Greenbaum ’17 was particularly effective tonight. We look forward to rebounding against Kingswood-Oxford tomorrow afternoon on the road. Many thanks to the Yue family for the meatball subs, salad, fruit, and cookies after the game!
