In the final game of the DA Invitational, Deerfield took on Stanstead looking to rebound from a poor showing in their first game of the day. The Big Green got on the board first, as Katherine Jackson ’15 slipped a pass over to Meghan Halloran ’17 on a 2 vs. 2, who immediately sniped a shot into the top corner. Kayla O’Connor ’14 extended our lead on the penalty kill, going in alone and putting a great move on the Stanstead goalie to score on the backhand. After Stanstead cut into the lead on the power play, Halloran scored her second goal of the game on our own man advantage, deflecting in a Kylie Davis ’14 shot from the point. Jackson earned the second assist on the play. Though Stanstead would again make the game close, Halloran completed the hat-trick by depositing the puck into an empty net in the final minute of play. Emily Yue ’16 had a very good game in goal, bailing out her teammates on several occasions when our defensive coverage broke down. She was also aided by the acrobatics of Madi Lyford ’15, who saved a sure goal by diving across the crease and batting the puck out of mid-air. Jackson had a spectacular game for Deerfield, while Emma Siefert ’16 had her best game of this young season. All in all, this was an all-around excellent effort, and a great team win, for the Big Green, as we head into our Holiday vacation on a high note. Many thanks to all of the parents and families who came out to support our team this weekend, and a special thanks to Susie for all of her hard work to ensure that the tournament ran smoothly. We look forward to 2014!
