The boys played a much improved game today against Taft. Team organization and attitude were excellent and we worked hard throughout the game to play it our way. In the first half we had a series of good attacks from the flanks but fell just short at the final step. After fifteen minutes we had three close offsides call against us and at the 25-minute mark ZZ had a blast from about 30 yards that flew just by the frame. Unfortunately, in spite of general improvement in our set-piece defense, with three minutes in the half Taft found the goal off a corner that we were not quite quick enough to stop. The second half saw continued great effort and several more good chances to tie the game, products of our commitment to using our targets and getting forward fast. When Taft scored with 15 to go it seemed that the wrong team was putting this one in the win column, and the final goal with moments remaining did seal the deal. Still, this game marked a fine day for this team, committed to improving every day regardless of adversity or opponent. We looked much more like a unit, we had determination and work out of everyone, and we made a lot of quality chances. Special praise to Adam Philie who took a new role as center back out of necessity and made it look like he owned it.
