Varsity Soccer (Boys) vs. Kent at Home

Deerfield 3, Kent 4

The Deerfield and Kent boys played an exciting and action-packed game today. Both teams attacked with pace and produced numerous fine chances. Early in the first half Andrew Shediac kept Kent off the board with fine saves of dangerous Kent shots; shortly thereafter Deerfield got on the board first with an excellent Jackson Dayton goal from a fine Luke Walsh pass. In the next ten minutes Deerfield might have scored several more goals as Kent seemed a bit confused about handling the quick-attacking Green. At the 18th minute Kent almost struck again, but fine cover by David Lucente headed a ball clear from the goal line. After a ball off the post from Jackson, Kent again found good opportunities only to be stymied once more by goalie Shediac. The final twenty minutes of the half saw three more goals from Kent (one off a corner, one fine long shot, and the last on a counter) and an excellent DA goal on a perfect cross from Conner Romeyn to Daniel Blohm. The second half saw more great work by the Deerfield defense backed by a couple of outstanding Shediac saves before a trip of Blohm allowed Jackson Dayton to pull Deerfield within one with about 26 minutes to play. Jackson had to leave minutes later with an ankle injury but the team pushed for the full ninety and pressured Kent for the equalizer right to the final whistle. The Green played a top opponent today and battled all the way. Getting better every day …
