This past Saturday, in front of an enthusiastic parents’ weekend crowd, the Deerfield Academy Boy’s soccer team took on Philips Exeter Academy. After a restful week Deerfield came out ready toplay. A combination of good Deerfield passing, tough defense and quick, counterattack offense helped to generate a few great looks at net early on in the first half from Jackson Dayton (’13). However, Exeter also had their chances. Exeter was able to break through the Deerfield defense but a couple of outstanding saves from keeper Ben Bolotin (’12) kept the game tied 0-0. The turning point came late in the first half when an early cross, batted around inside the Deerfield goal area was volleyed in by an Exeter striker. The half ended 0-1. Deerfield started the second half with a lot of energy. But unfortunately Exeter managed to put one in during the 55th minute. Deerfield continued to take shots, but Exeter took control of the game in the 75th minute when their lead striker’s shot from outside the 18’ found the back of the net.  Deerfield held off the Exeter attack for the rest of the game, which ended 0-3. The stats showed 8 shots for Deerfield and 12 for Exeter. Deerfield Academy Boy’s Varsity Soccer looks forward to a new week and their match against Kimball Union Academy on Wednesday.
