Boys Soccer challenged Exeter in southeastern NH on a balmy Saturday. Sloppy conditions contributed to a surface that made precision difficult, and much of the game was played between the 18s. Deerfield’s defense was again very successful at keeping the opponents at bay, and Exeter’s attempts to play through and over were ineffective. By the same note, Deerfield was unable to get much pressure in on the Exeter goal. A number of late offside calls contributed to a bit of frustration both on and off the field, and the game had its scrappy moments. Midway in the second half Exeter got on the board off a corner and an ensuing melee during which a ball was passed forward to a man at the left of the goal mouth who directed it in. The referees saw no offside. A tough match to lose, but Deerfield did not get in to score in spite of playing a very solid game in heart, determination, and organization.
