Deerfield Boys Varsity Soccer closed its season today with a well-fought match against traditional rival Choate on a lovely day in Wallingford. Choate brought its strong team to the pitch needing a win to stay in the tournament hunt, and the DA boys brought their determined and disciplined character hoping to get one more upset. Choate struck early off a near-post corner conversion; the sort of goal DA gave up early in the year but had defended well later on. Choate had more opportunities than DA throughout the first half but gradually the Green seemed to figure out Choate’s primary attack plan and manage it well. The second half saw several good chances for DA but none got into the net, and Choate again had a few but the defense and star goalie Andrew Shediac were able to hold the fort. Deerfield never stopped battling, nor did Choate, and the final whistle saw both teams competing a last DA chance inside the Choate eighteen. Congratulations to both teams on a fine competition; special mention to all the Deerfield seniors whose character shone as strong as ever in their last DA game. An impressive season in every way.
