Deerfield ran into a determined Vermont Academy squad on Friday evening, and once again inconsistent energy and poor decision making left them in a hole that they could not quite climb out of. After the home team scored the first two goals of the game, Kayla O’Connor ’14 scored a power play goal off of a gorgeous pass from Katherine Jackson ’15 in the second period to cut the lead in half. Vermont doubled their lead 5 minutes into the third period, but Taylor Morash ’16 responded for the Big Green with less than 30 seconds to go (Jackson earned the assist). However, Vermont put the game away with an empty net goal in the dying seconds. Hannah Insuik ’13 made 15 saves, while the Vermont goalie stopped 28 shots. This young team is still forging its identity, and we look forward to playing 45 minutes of solid hockey next weekend at the Deerfield Invitational. Many thanks to the Lyfords for the amazing quesadillas after the game!
