In the first game back from break, a somewhat depleted Deerfield squad took on a feisty NMH team. The first period was mainly a defensive affair; neither team was able to generate particularly dangerous scoring opportunities, but the Big Green did have its hands full with the relentless Hoggers forecheck. NMH broke the game open in the second period, capitalizing on costly Deerfield penalties to take a two goal lead heading into the final stanza. However, the Big Green finally got their act together in the final fifteen minutes, controlling the tempo of the play and creating dangerous offensive chances. With the goaltender on the bench, Kayla O’Connor ’14 pulled the home team within one as she converted passes from Lucy Lytle ’15 and Madi Lyford ’15. Though the Big Green swarmed the NMH goal for the final minute, they could not find the equalizer. Emily Yue ’16 made 14 saves for Deerfield, with the NMH goalie stopped 15 shots. Next up is Exeter at home on Saturday.
