Varsity Hockey (Girls) vs. Hotchkiss at Away

Deerfield played a very solid game against a good Hotchkiss squad on Saturday afternoon in Lakeville, CT. Hotchkiss came out with a good deal of energy, but after weathering the initial push the Big Green found their legs and generated some solid scoring opportunities. Deerfield struggled a bit in the second period, as the long change caused some lengthy shifts, and Hotchkiss was able to get on the board off of a deflection on a shot from the point. Deerfield battled back in the third, however, and nearly tied the game when Devinne Cullinane ’14 sent Kayla O’Connor ’14 in alone, but the Bearcats goalie came up with an excellent save. This was an exciting, back-and-forth affair that would ultimately end up 1-0 in favor of the home team. Hannah Insuik ’13 played very well in goal with 30 saves, while Deerfield fired 20 shots on the Hotchkiss net. Many thanks to the several families who provided pizza and snacks for the bus ride home. Next up is Williston at home on Wednesday.
