The Big Green played a solid game against Berkshire on Monday evening at home. As has been the case all season, Deerfield could not find the back of the net, while their opponent was able to capitalize on key mistakes. Berkshire struck first toward the end of the first period when an errant power play breakout pass led to a breakaway against goalie Emily Yue ’16. In the second, the visitors caught our defensemen napping, with a Berkshire forward walking in untouched and burying the puck in the top corner. Down by two in the third period, the Deerfield defense became more aggressive in the offensive zone, and Berkshire was able to take advantage of another breakaway to extend their lead. Deerfield did not quit, however, and pulled within two on the power play with less than two minutes to play. Devinne Cullinane ’14 was able to capitalize on a rebound opportunity, with Kayla O’Connor ’14 and Maryanne Iodice ’14 earning the assists. Unfortunately, the score would end 3-1. Taylor Morash ’16 and Elana Van Arnam ’13 both had excellent games for the Big Green, while Yue played very well in net with 25 saves. Deerfield fired 22 shots on the Berkshire goal. Next up is a trip to Cushing on Wednesday. Many thanks to the Van Arnams for the world famous chocolate milk after the game!
