In their final game before Long Winter Weekend, Deerfield took on a young but spirited NEWHL squad at home on Wednesday night. The Big Green finally broke out of their scoring funk, scoring six goals in the first period. Devinne Cullinane ’14 was on fire early on, scoring three goals in her first three shifts of the game. The first two were wonderful individual efforts, while the third came off of an excellent pass from Madi Lyford ’15. Maryanne Iodice ’14 then scored on a one-timer (assists went to Kayla O’Connor ’14 and Katherine Jackson ’15), before O’Connor had a slick goal of her own. Taylor Morash ’16 capped off the scoring, finishing off a nice passing sequence from O’Connor and Iodice. Ryan Logie ’13 and Kelsey Gallagher ’13 did a great job at their new forward positions. Since NEWHL was without a goaltender, Hannah Insuik ’13 and Emily Yue ’16 split the duties for the visitors, both coming up with excellent saves from point-blank range. Yue was particularly effective in the second half of the game, making 38 saves to keep her teammates off the scoreboard. Many thanks to the NEWHL players for making the long trip to Deerfield!
