While the score weighed heavily in the visiting Bearcats favor, the play on the field was more evenly matched this afternoon in Old Deerfield. Â The Hotchkiss squad was opening their 2012 campaign after winning their 10th straight New England Championship last November while the DA side was looking to maintain their winning ways this season. Â The Girls in Green came out gunning and were able to control play for the first 15 minutes of the game but a stalwart defensive effort by Hotchkiss stymied all attempts on goal. Â Two lapses on defense led to two quick Bearcat goals and the momentum shift was palpable as DA was forced in to a more defensive posture. Â Down 2-0, the Girls started the second half as they did the first by pushing downfield and there were many close chances and missed shots. Â However, the Hotchkiss team demonstrated great resolve and responded to the pressure adding two more tallies on the afternoon. Â A well played affair all around and the Girls had plenty to be proud of this afternoon, hopefully the loss will add some fuel to the competitive fire and the team will bounce back this coming Wednesday at Ethel Walker before facing Thayer and Exeter next weekend, lots of hockey next week!
