Team Green faced an onslaught of inclement weather this week that saw the lower level flooding yet again but mercifully the Roland Turf remained above flood level. The weather in the morning threatened drenching rain but the clouds held off as the match began and both sides enjoyed crisp fall weather for the eagerly anticipated match between West (DA) and East (PEA). The half opened with action flowing across midfield with each team taking control and then facing a tough defensive front. Exeter would push the ball deep and then DA would reverse field and counter attack. This “counter-punching” continued until Exeter broke free and scored on a well-executed cross for a 1-0 lead. The match remained balanced until Haddad broke free and shot hard on goal and a deflection resulted in a DA goal. The match entered half tied at 1’s and it was clear that both squads were prepared for an exciting second half. The DA girls came out firing in the second half and controlled much of the offensive play. After several corners, the DA girls converted on a blocked shot as Haddad fed Growney on a deflection for a well-earned goal. The match continued and both sides fought hard to defend and “offend” but the DA girls were able to hold the lead until the final horn! Next up is a game on the road to Northfield, Go Green!
