Varsity Field Hockey (Girls) vs. Berkshire at Home

After a summer of hard work, the Girls in Green arrived back on campus ready to improve upon last year’s first round playoff loss to Westminster.  The team graduated several key seniors but a core group of returners have demonstrated that they are ready to carry the load for the 2012 squad.  Last year, DA struggled to put the ball on net against Berkshire and walked away with a hard-fought tie.  On Saturday, the game looked like it may finish in the same fashion as both teams sparred and parried in a very balanced first half.  J. Hamilton had the first goal (her career first!) deflecting a shot by M. Growney in the early going but Berkshire held strong and had several chances as the half wound to an end but the DA defense proved to be unflappable.  The second half told a different story as the Girls’ summer conditioning bore fruit and DA controlled much of the play for the remainder of the game.  L. Lytle scored the insurance goal of the game off an assist by M Schilling and shortly before the final horn Schilling buried a beautiful cross by M. Murphy.  A well-played game by the DA squad!  Next up is a home fixture against Pomfret the Wednesday at home.  Go Big Green!
