The Deerfield Girls Cross Country team returned to the Westminster Invitational on Saturday to successfully defend their championship title against nine other teams. Placing for the girls in scoring positions were junior Devinne Cullinane (1st), senior Tatum McInerney (2nd), junior Molly Hunt (3rd), junior Lilah Lutes (4th), and freshman Lauren Ilsley (10th), for a team total of only 20pts. The girls outpaced second place Suffield, who finished with 72 pts. Junior Devinne Cullinane took the race from the sound of the starting gun and was followed by the Deerfield wolfpack of McInerney, Hunt and Lutes for the entire race. The Big Green varsity won with the amazingly low score of only 20 pts against a solid field of good XC programs.
Also running well were Olivia Mehm (13th), Emma Decamp (15th), Kylie Davis (22nd), Margo Downs (25th), Phoebe Morss (33rd), Alexia Hernadez (53rd), Bea Madersbacher Eide (65th), Blair Johnson (66th), Anne Rodahl (85th), Kaity Jia (99th) and Ali Gerber (119th). Had the JV girls counted as a team, they would have finished third in the meet!
Come see the girls of the Big Green next week, October 14th at 4PM, as they take on a perennially strong Loomis Chaffee and arch rival Choate here at home! This is our last home meet of the season and a terrific opportunity to witness the strongest Deerfield Girls’ Cross Country team in the school’s history.
Go Big Green!
