Today the Deerfield Girls Cross Country Team, led by senior captains Tatum McInerney, Dashiell Schulte, and Rose Fisher, made Deerfield Academy history, winning the New England Championships for the first time since going co-ed in 1989! Led by junior Devinne Cullinane (3rd), junior Lilah Lutes (4th), sophomore Phoebe Morss (8th), senor Emma DeCamp (10th), senior Tatum McInerney (14th), junior Molly Hunt (15th), and freshman Lauren Ilsley (40th), the girls finished first with a terrifically low score of 39 points! In second place was an impressive Choate-Rosemary Hall squad with 108 points. Clinching the New England title was a fitting capstone to a second undefeated regular season in a row, leaving the girls with an intensely happy sense of accomplishment and a passion to keep the momentum going. The girls junior varsity finished 5th, and included Kylie Davis, Margo Downs, Nahla Gedeon Achi, Bea Madersbacher Eid, Alexia Hernandez, Blair Jonson, Charlotte Allen, Mary Brouder, and Olivia Mehm. The assistant coaches Cheri Karbon, Amanda Zranchev, Anna Cressotti and I would like to congratulate the girls for a season well run, and for a team that every week exemplified confidence, hard work, fun, and great affection for one another!
With great admiration and virtually endless thanks to the girls, coaches, and parents for a wonderful season!
