The Deerfield Girls Cross Country team successfully defended their Division I Canterbury Invitational title on Saturday, making this the third straight year the girls have won. On a pleasant but overcast day the girls posted their first official 2012 team victory over a broad and talented field of 11 schools from as far away as New Jersey. Deerfield emerged with 48 points, placing their first five runners in the top 17. The girls demonstrated an impressive patience with a fast early season start to the race, following up with supportive team running efforts as they made their way in pairs through the field. Leading the way in first place overall was junior Devinne Cullinane who finished with the fastest time of the day in either division (19:41). Following Devinne were junior Molly Hunt (7th), junior Lilah Lutes (8th), junior Olivia Mehm (15th), freshman Lauren Ilsley (17th), and junior Kylie Davis (25th). The Canterbury format allows only seven runners from each team, but next weekend the entire girls team travels to the Westminster School for an all hands on deck showing, so please come cheer on the Big Green at Simsbury. Thanks to all the parents who came out to support the boys and girls at Canterbury (and for the rest of the season); your support means a lot to both the kids and the coaches.
 Go Big Green!
