The Deerfield girls cross country team went to the Canterbury School on Saturday and successfully defended their championship title from 2010. In doing so the girls defeated 15 other teams including Choate, Hotchkiss, Blair, Kent and Loomis. Lead by sophomore Devinne Cullinane (4th in 20:16), the girls, including senior Alanna McDonough (7th), junior Tatum McInerney (13), junior Dashiell Schulte (19th), junior Rose Fisher (22nd) and sophomore Carlie Enzerra (23rd) ran smart races, allowing the field to run off too fast, only to reel them in later in the race. The girls also demonstrated ferocious kicks in the last 150 meters of the race, literally beating the second place Hopkins School because of gutsy finishes. Next week the girls team travels to the Westminster School Invitational where they will also be defending their championship title.
