The Deerfield girls braved the wrath of Old Man Winter today as they undertook the long journey to Andover on a day which promised a foot of snow. Their perseverance paid off as the Big Green emerged victorious over a deep, defending New England Champions Andover team. Lead by sophomore Devinne Cullinane  who won the race in 19:35, and senior Alanna McDonough who finished a hair behind Cullinane with a time of 19:38, the Big Green varsity were rounded off by sophomore Lilah Lutes (4th), junior Jinane Gedeon Achi (6th), sophomore Carlie Enzerra (8th), junior Rose Fisher (11th), junior Dashiell Schulte (12th), and freshman Heidi Hunt (13th). The JV lost to Andover (38-20) but did so down in numbers which augmented Andover’s amazing depth advantage. They were lead by freshman Nahla Gedeon Achi, sophomore Kylie Davis, freshman Camille Larmoyeaux, senior Megan Foster, sophomore Asu Bilirgen, junior Zoe L’Esperance,  freshman Ali Barber, and freshman Mary Brouder. Whatever the outcome, the Big Green next take on cross town rival NMH to wrap up a magical regular season and then turn the corner to the New England Championships back at Andover the following week. Please join us in Northfield next Saturday and at Phillips Andover in two weeks for the championship. And finally, a special thank you to all the parents and grandparents who managed time out of their busy lives to brave the cold and support us today (and every weekend!), and to those who could not make it but whose hearts were with us on the course.
Go Big Green!
-Dennis Cullinane
