Deerfield’s Boys’ Cross Country team traveled to the Canterbury School in Connecticut on Saturday for the annual Canterbury Invitational. 40 independent schools from across the Northeast competed in the invitational, running the challenging 5k course in soggy, muddy conditions. Deerfield were the runners-up for the second straight year; DA’s score of 97 was bested only by Loomis’ 86. Hotchkiss (105) finished third.
Junior Ben Wood led the way for Deerfield, finishing 5th overall in 16:47. His classmate, Robert Beit, was right behind him in 8th place (16:57). Co-captain Fred Quesada (17th), sophomore Reed Horton (25th), and co-captain Brad Marshall (42nd) rounded out Deerfield’s top 5.
Deerfield’s harriers have one more invitational ahead of them on their schedule. Next week, the full team will travel together to Westminster for the 6th edition of the Richard Miller invitational.
