The Big Green faced their first real test of the season on Wednesday afternoon, taking on a talented Loomis squad on home ice. After a back-and-forth first period, Loomis struck early on in the second frame to take a 1-0 lead. The visitors had Deerfield on its heels for much of the period, but timely saves and solid penalty killing kept DA within striking distance heading into the final fifteen minutes. Despite generating some solid scoring chances, and very nearly capitalizing on a few opportunities, Loomis put the game away with an empty net goal with only seconds left on the clock. Though there is much work to be done, this was a solid start for a relatively young squad. Emily Yue ’16 had a standout game in goal, turning away 19 Pelican shots, while Deerfield fired 15 shots on the Loomis goal. Next up is a road trip to Nobles on Friday. Thanks to the Growneys for the wonderful snacks after the game!
