The ball keeps rolling as the girls cross country team yesterday defeated a solid Choate Rosemary Hall team 18 to 41, and once again bested a powerful Loomis Chaffee team 21-36. The girls travelled to Wallingford for the tri meet between these three respected western New England rivals. On a warm and sunny fall day with just a few leaves on the ground, the Big Green got an early jump on the competition, taking five of the top ten spots right from the gun. The 5k course at Choate is a challenging one and yesterday was no different as the constant hills had their effect on the times of the day. When the dust settled, Deerfield had come out on top, with senior captain Devinne Cullinane taking first in 19:42, junior Phoebe Morss second in 20:27, junior Samantha Morse fourth in 21:01, senior Caroline Wagner seventh in 21:18, sophomore Lauren Ilsley tenth in 22:08, and rounding out the varsity was freshman standout Madisen Siegel in 22:23. Junior varsity finishers for the Big Green were Megan Retana 22nd- 25:00, Penelope Hough 29th- 25:46, Kylie Davis 32nd- 26:52, Madeleine Genereux 34th- 27:08, and Emily Malea 45th- 28:45.
Next Up for the Big Green is Exeter at home, followed the week after by Andover at home. Please take the opportunity to come see the girls run. The bulk of the team will be participating in our next two home meets as they are all becoming seasoned cross country runners.
Go Big Green!
