In a rare Friday afternoon game, the Big Green faced off against a much improved New Hampton squad. Deerfield was  a little slow out of the gates in the first period, as they struggled to find the energy and intensity that had served them so well on Wednesday against Choate. Nevertheless, Jamie Haddad ’12 scored the only goal of the period off of assists from Katherine Jackson ’15 and Kylie Davis ’14. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there, as New Hampton took advantage of a slow, careless, and uninspired Deerfield team to score three straight goals in the first ten minutes of the second period. After a Big Green timeout, Deerfield decided to finally play to their potential. They forced New Hampton into taking two penalties in quick succession, and Haddad ’12 pulled DA to within one with a beautiful shot into the upper corner of the net. Alanna McDonough ’12 and Julie Wardwell ’12 earned the assists. Our power play unit did not stop there, as Jackson ’15 made a fantastic move on a partial breakaway to tie the score. Wardwell ’12 picked up her second assist of the game on the play. The third period was all Deerfield, as McDonough ’12 scored, off of assists from Haddad and Jackson, before Haddad completed the hat trick (assisted by McDonough). Sammy Hirshland ’13 made 16 saves for the win, while the New Hampton goalie stopped 27 shots. Kelsey Gallagher ’13 and Victoria Serra ’12 both had great games at forward. Many thanks to the Logies for the delicious burgers, hotdogs, chips, and strawberries, the Gallaghers for the wonderful salad, and the Hirshlands for the fantastic cookies. Deerfield will hit the road again tomorrow morning to take on the Rhinos from Taft.Â
