In their first game of 2012, the Big Green took on the New England Falcons at home on Friday night. Though the girls looked a little sluggish in the first period, they still managed to get on the board first off of goals from Jamie Haddad ’12 (assisted by Julie Wardwell ’12 and Alanna McDonough ’12) and Shelbi Kilcollins (assisted by Elana Van Arnam). The second period was all Deerfield, as our relentless forecheck, smart passing and excellent puck movement kept the Falcons pinned in their own end. Katherine Jackson ’15 scored on a wonderful individual effort, and then Haddad completed the hat trick with two goals before the end of the period, with McDonough and Lucy Lytle ’15 earning assists. Hannah Insuik ’13 made 6 saves for the win, and the two Falcons goalies combined for 36 saves, many from point-blank range. Devinne Cullinane ’14 had an outstanding game, and was a force to be reckoned with all over the ice. Special thanks to the Lytles and O’Connors for the delicious mac and cheese, salad, and fruit after the game! The Big Green will travel to Nobles tomorrow afternoon in what is sure to be an exciting and competitive game.
