The Big Green traveled to Kingswood-Oxford today to take on a tenacious Wyvern squad. The first period was characterized by sloppy, undisciplined play from the Deerfield girls, as they struggled to make tape-to-tape passes and lacked the intensity that they had displayed in their three previous games. Fortunately, Hannah Insuik ’13 made a big stop toward the end of the period to keep the game scoreless heading into the second. The Big Green knew that they needed to pick up their pace, and were able to come out flying to start the second period. Jamie Haddad ’11 converted a beautiful pass from Kayla O’Connor ’14 on a Deerfield power play to open the scoring, but the girls could not extend their lead despite solid scoring opportunities from Alanna McDonough ’12 and Shelbi Kilcollins ’12. Though Deerfield continued its dominant play in the third period, Kingswood was able to generate some dangerous scoring opportunities before McDonough doubled Deerfield’s lead off of a pass from Haddad with four minutes left in the game. O’Connor added an empty net goal to round out the scoring for Deerfield. Special mention to Kelsey Gallagher ’13 for her excellent work on the penalty kill. Insuik finished with 14 saves on the game, while the K-O goalie stopped 22 shots. Thank you to the Insuik family for the delicious pulled pork and salad after the game! The girls will enjoy a much-needed day off on Monday before returning to the ice to prepare for a series of 5 games in 4 days.Â
