Deerfield hit the road yet again to take on a solid Exeter squad. Though the effort and energy was there, mental errors and defensive miscues during the first two periods led to a four goal Exeter lead after 30 minutes of play. Exeter deserves a lot of credit for capitalizing on each Deerfield error. The third period was a different story, as the Big Green dominated from start to finish, thwarting every Exeter attack and generating plenty of scoring opportunities. Our opponents’ defense held strong, however, yielding only one power play goal to Jamie Haddad ’12 (assisted by Julie Wardwell ’12). Sammy Hirshland ’13 stopped 9 of the 13 shots sent her way, while Hannah Insuik ’13 made 6 saves in the third period. Deerfield outshot Exeter 25-19 on the afternoon. Special thanks to the Wardwells for the amazing Mexican feast after the game, and the Cullinanes for the delicious chocolate chip cookies! Next up is rival Choate on Wednesday.Â
