Deerfield took the ice this afternoon against a quick and physical Cushing squad, and never quite got our legs moving. In the first period we were out-muscled and out-skated to most loose pucks, and failed to generate any significant scoring opportunities. We were lucky to only be down 1-0 after the first period of play. Although we upped our intensity and compete level over the final 30 minutes of the game, Cushing got two more goals in the third and the score ended 3-0 in favor of the visiting team. The Big Green was simply never able to generate any momentum offensively, something we will surely work on before Saturday’s game. Sammy Hirshland ’13 made 13 saves for the home team, while Deerfield fired 16 shots on the Cushing net. Kelsey Gallagher ’13 played well at forward, and Julie Wardwell ’12 was a rock star on defense. We look forward to taking on Hotchkiss at home on Saturday. Special thanks to the Gallaghers for the mac and cheese, salad, corn bread, fruit, drinks, rice krispie squares and chocolate mousse!
