The Big Green traveled to Andover today and played inspired hockey from the drop of the puck. Though Andover went on the power play just over a minute into the game, it was Deerfield that got on the board first. As time wound down on the penalty, Mettler Growney ’13 stole the puck in the defensive zone, streaked down the ice, and fired the puck past the Andover goaltender. The second and third periods were all Deerfield, as we out-shot the home team 27-8 over the final thirty minutes of the game. Jamie Haddad ’12 scored two unassisted highlight reel goals, but the Andover goalie thwarted every other attempt, making some fantastic saves on Katherine Jackson ’15 and Devinne Cullinane ’14. Nevertheless, the Big Green went home with a well-deserved 3-0 win. Hannah Insuik earned the shutout with 13 saves, while Deerfield fired 36 shots on goal. Kelsey Gallagher ’13 played particularly well today, making excellent passes and generating several scoring opportunities. Special thanks to the McDonoughs for the delicious sandwiches, chowder, chips and desserts, and to Mrs. Cullinane for her famous cookies. Deerfield will return to action on February 8th at Westminster. Heading into Long Winter Weekend, our record sits at 12-5-1.Â
