GV Field Hockey vs. Westminster at Suffield

A very tough, rainy day for the Girls in Green.  Both teams entered the game looking for a big W.  Westy had handled the DA squad 4-2 earlier in the season but Deerfield entered the game playing some great hockey after Saturday’s big win against Choate.  Haddad’12 kicked things off 29 seconds in to the game after a beautiful pass from Anderson ’12!  The Martlets of Westy were a bit stunned and DA continued to press throughout the half but the Westy defense and goalie played their hearts out and stymied the Green attack.   The Girls came out ready to continue pressing in the 2nd half but it was clear that Westy had similar intentions!  Three minutes in to the half Westy found a hole in DA’s cohesive play and a talented Westy offense to cross a nice ball to tie up the contest.  The play was reasonably even but the Martlets were able to break through the defensive line and found the back boards with 13 minutes remaining.  The DA girls bounced back and had numerous breakaways and shots on goal but again, the Westy goalie proved her mettle.  Overall, a great afternoon of field hockey despite the driving rain.  Deerfield finishes the season with a record of 10-5-1!  Many thanks and congratulations to our seniors on an amazing year!
