Deerfield lost 8-5 in a hard-fought game against Worcester Academy on Saturday, 5/5. After giving up a solo homerun to start the game, Luke Barkowski (’12) settled-in well on the mound, keeping the Worcester batsmen off-balanced most of the afternoon. With some timely hitting, though, Worcester was able to mount a rally in the 5th inning to re-take the lead after Deerfield scrapped a few runs together in the bottom half of the 4th . Nolan Doyle (’12) finished the game on the mound for the Big Green, keeping the defecit within reach. With a few scoring chances late in the game, Deerfield couldn’t string enough hits together to mount the comeback they were looking for. The Big Green defense kept them within striking distance as Jackson Dayton (’13) and Ben Bolotin (’12) came up with big plays in the outfield, as well as Luke Bakker’s (’15) solid defense over at third base. Despite the loss, the team played a strong and complete 7 innings of baseball against a very talented Worcester Academy squad. Next up for Deerfield is another NEPSBL game against NMH on Wednesday, 5/9 at 2:30 PM.
