Deerfield’s Varsity Nine dropped their fourth straight game on Saturday by losing 11-9 to the Hoggers of NMH. Both teams packed their hitting shoes, as each offense was able to manufacture runs early in the game. Deerfield rallied back in the fifth inning, by putting up 3 runs on the board to cut the NMH lead to 2, but that was as close as the game would get. Jackson Dayton (’13), Niko Grupen (’12), Mike Barry (’12), and Nick Goss (’13) all swung the bat well, and Luke Barkowski (’12) and Ben Wood (’13) combined for a solid outing on the hill. The Big Green defense proved to be susceptible to errors that ended up being costly for the game’s outcome. Despite the disappointing loss, the team is ready to bounce back against Springfield College’s JV team on Monday, 4/16 at 4:00 PM on Headmaster’s Field.
