Deerfield had an impressive showing Wednesday afternoon against their county rival, Northfield Mount Hermon. The Deerfield Nine captured their second NEPSBL win of the season, besting the Hoggers by a score of 8-2. Deerfield jumped out to a first inning lead and never looked back. Billy O’Neil (’13) went the full seven innings for the Big Green, giving up 2 runs on only 3 hits. The Big Green defense showed their support by putting together an errorless game behind O’Neil. Jackson Dayton’s (’13) acrobatic diving catch on a hard line drive to left field and Luke Bakker’s (’15) steady play at third base (5 put-outs) proved to be the defensive highlights for Deerfield. Offensively, Dayton, Niko Grupen (’12), Ben Bolitin (’12), and Tabor Edwards (’12) (all players with three hits) sparked a big day at the plate for the Deerfield batsmen. It was certainly a well-deserved team win for Deerfield on the diamond, and the team looks forward to taking on first place Andover in a weekend double header Saturday afternoon at Philips Academy.
