Wednesday afternoon on Headmaster’s Field, Deerfield battled their traditional rival, Choate. Getting off to a good start, Deerfield pulled ahead to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. The lead would not last long however, as Choate scratched back to put up 4 runs in the top of the second. The game played much closer than the final 13-4 final score, with two costly errors in the outfield amounting to 6 runs for the boars. Mike Barry continued his steady offensive production for the Big Green. The pitching effort was by committee, with John Deskavich getting the start, followed by Luke Barkowski, Ben Wood, and Luke Bakker. Beginning to recover from injuries that have plagued the team most of the season, Ben Bolitin and Conor Quinn are working back into the line-up, which will add depth and offensive firepower to the Big Green line-up. Despite their losing record, the team continues to prepare with confidence and feels poised to tackle the second half of league play with tenacity and determination. The Deerfield Varsity Nine will travel to seacoast, New Hampshire on Saturday, 4/28 for an important double header against league opponent, Phillips Exeter Academy.
