Deerfield is Community

Required
Co-Curriculars

Every Deerfield student is required to be involved in a co-curricular activity each term.  Normally, freshmen and sophomores are required to participate in interscholastic sports for two seasons each year. Students identified as having strong interest and talent in the performing arts (dance, music, theater) may petition the co-curricular Committee for an exemption to this requirement. Advisors will review their advisees’ schedules to ensure that every student has a co-curricular commitment each term.

In many ways, "community" is the single most important idea at Deerfield.  Boarding and day students convene for co-curriculars and extra-curriculars, to pursue academics, the arts, community service, and club activities—or just to "make a run to Savages."

Deerfield has a wide array of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that complement time spent in the classroom. In addition to athletics, Deerfield's co-curriculars include community service, music, theater, and dance programs.

Groups and clubs of nearly every type dominate extra-curricular activities.  And the village and valley in which we live provides countless opportunities to engage off-campus, whether students are simply running errands, connecting with day students, or enjoying other weekend activities.
