DA to Z Change – from the deans

Current policy:

Repeated Failure to Meet School Obligations

Deerfield students are expected to meet their school responsibilities during the academic year. Students who repeatedly miss school commitments and those who accrue excessive accountability points risk losing the privilege of attending the Academy.

The deans would like to change this rule so that it reads something like this, which effectively already takes place:

Repeated Failure to Meet School Obligations

Deerfield students are expected to behave appropriately in our community, and to meet their school responsibilities during the academic year. Students who repeatedly come to the attention of the dean’s office in a negative light, and those who accrue excessive accountability points, risk losing the privilege of attending the Academy.

i.e. repeated disrespect of the school in non-AP-earning ways – vandalizing, swearing in front of teachers, general bad attitude – starts a student on the disciplinary path.

Suggesting the change to “…risk disciplinary action towards potentially losing the privilege of the Academy,” Council voted in favor 8 to 1.
