Proctors

Proctors are a vital link in the residential system and work closely with the dormitory faculty in supporting freshmen and sophomores. Boarding and day student proctors provide leadership and mentoring to their young charges. They add to the congenial warmth of the dormitory environment by acting as big brothers and sisters, and in doing so, provide encouragement and support. Even though a room is not assigned to them, day students are matched with a dormitory, integrated into the residential system, and encouraged to be involved in feeds, dorm meetings, and sleepovers.

Proctors receive training in listening skills and knowing how and when to involve others in giving or getting help. They also serve as role models, demonstrating sensible and responsible lifestyles. Resident and associate faculty work closely with their proctors to develop trust and open communication–the combination provides a safe and welcoming environment for Deerfield students.
