Annual Support: Why Every Gift Matters
For anyone who has walked around Deerfield’s campus lately you will see there is a lot of excitement going on both inside and outside the classroom. The Memorial Building renovations are in full swing, new faculty and programs are off to a great start, the Robotics Club had 90 students come to their first meeting, our sports teams have finished a full fall season, and the Denunzio Disco Dance was a huge hit, just as it has been for years. Life on campus is thriving and all of our children are the beneficiaries of this amazing high school experience.
So many of these wonderful programs are made possible through the generosity of current parents, past parents, and our illustrious alumni. While there are many ways to give back to Deerfield, the Annual Fund is the primary way to support the many important activities and goals of the Academy. As in years past, Deerfield asks that parents of the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes consider a gift to the Annual Fund. These funds provide the Academy with the ability to explore, experiment, and upgrade programs.
As students approach their senior year, parents come together to fund a legacy project in honor of the graduating class. Past efforts have helped build our Fitness Center, renovate the Dining Hall, renovate and expand our Center for the Arts, and endow several faculty positions. The impact of these gifts on Deerfield–and the student experience–is immeasurable.
The Campaign to Honor the Class of 2014 will establish an endowed fund to support student-planned cultural, entertainment, and educational activities, both on and off campus. The fund envisions a robust program managed by a student activities committee, overseen by faculty and mentored by community leaders in the arts. In addition to enriching campus life, this fund will help create leadership opportunities for students, allowing them to gain meaningful hands-on experience with budgets, event organization, and management.
Challenges are greater and more complex for today’s students. They must navigate landscapes–technological, social, academic, and global–vastly different from those we encountered in the past. It is Deerfield’s duty and privilege to ensure that every student receives the best possible preparation for college and career. As parents, we can be an important part of this effort by giving back to Deerfield Academy. Please join our families in supporting this year’s Annual and Senior Funds by giving at whatever level you can.
