Jael Hernandez-Vasquez

Language Teaching Fellow

Jael Hernandez-Vasquez  joined the Language Department in 2013. A master of tongues, Jael speaks four languages fluently; Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese; translates Greek and Latin; speaks proficient Haitian Creole, German, and Mandarin Chinese; and can read and write several more languages, including Arabic, Hebrew, Korean, and Russian. He grew up in the Dominican Republic, attended St. Paul’s School, studied classics at Columbia, and came to Deerfield from two years teaching at a public school in Miami as part of the Teach for America program. Here at Deerfield, Jael teaches Latin, lives in Field III, coaches Boys Thirds Basketball, serves on the Diversity Committee, and assists the Debate Team.
