Rich joined the Deerfield faculty in 2007 as a member of the science department. A physics instructor for eleven years, Rich has taught at The Groton School, Aspen Country Day School, The Hotchkiss School and most recently in Santiago, Chile. He currently teaches first-year physics, AP Physics for juniors/seniors, astronomy and serves as the director of the Tanoto Planetarium.
After a collegiate athletic career as a member of the Bowdoin College squash and rugby teams, Rich found road cycling and adventure triathlons as new challenges in post-collegiate athletics. He has completed road races and triathlons throughout Colorado and New England, continues to race during the summer months, and is a certified USAC coach. In addition to cycling, Rich coaches squash in the winter and lives in Poc Dorm with his wife Katie, a math teacher and field hockey coach at DA, and their three children.
