ON SABBATICAL
Jan Flaska came to the Deerfield community in the fall of 2005. He has served as the Assistant Dean of Students, and currently is the Dean of Spiritual and Ethical Life. He teaches in the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department.
He and his wife, Jill, and their children, Stefan and Emma, live in Johnson Dormitory with 11th and 12th grade boys.
Jan possesses a "B" level coaching license from US Soccer, as well as an Advanced National Coaching Diploma from the NSCAA. While in Chicago pursuing a doctorate degree, Jan was an assistant coach with the University of Chicago men’s soccer team. Prior to arriving at Deerfield Academy, he also spent many years coaching hockey and lacrosse at both prep and college levels.
A ’96 graduate of Bowdoin College, Jan contributed to the soccer, hockey, and lacrosse teams and was a three-time captain.
