Carmel joined the Mathematics Department in 2011. Previously the Chair of the Mathematics Department at Emma Willard School and a PhD candidate at the University at Albany/SUNY, Carmel is a mathematics scholar and practitioner with significant teaching experience. While earning her MA in Mathematics at Boston College, Carmel worked as a Fellow, teaching numerous college-level courses. Carmel also worked for six years in the math department and in the dorm at Phillips Exeter Academy. In recent years, Carmel has made numerous presentations at professional conferences on problem-based learning; her most recent article “Teaching Geometry Through Problem-Based Learning” was published in the December 2011/January 2012 issue of Mathematics Teacher.
