Squash at Deerfield is fun, competitive and rewarding, and the girls’ program provides opportunities for participation at all levels. Beginners learn the basics of the game in recreational groups or on the III’s team, and the JV team encourages intermediate players to develop their skills. The varsity girls compete against the best prep school players in the nation, and the team is traditionally one of the top teams in New England. In 2012, the varsity placed 2nd at the High School Team National Championships and 2nd at the New England Class A Championship.
With its ten state-of-the-art courts, the Dewey Squash Center, dedicated in 2007, is an excellent venue for practice, match and tournament play. The center is the site for a Massachusetts Junior tournament each year and often the venue for New England Championship play.
Top level competitive play has afforded many Deerfield alumnae the opportunity to play collegiate squash. A number of players have moved on to Division I colleges, including the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton and Harvard, while others have chosen to play in the competitive Division III NESCAC at Middlebury, Bowdoin, Amherst and Williams.
Girls squash at Deerfield is coached by Karinne Heise. For more information, please contact Ms. Heise at kheise@deerfield.edu.
